Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
